Ford car and truck transmission repair and rebuilt transmissions
Ford transmissions for automatic and standard shifting break down over time and eventually after a couple decades or less need a transmission rebuilt or repaired. Ford transmission specifications from the manufacturer require solenoids and sensors be replaced when repairing and rebuilding a transmission in one of their cars and trucks. Gaskets and seals are replaced and new parts are tested to original equipment specifications. Hydraulic pressure is tested in the vehicle when the transmission is tested after the installation as well as shifting points and smooth transitions, and converter stall speed and lock-up points.
The Ford Explorer model in particular had transmission problems between the years of 2002 and 2004. The check engine light comes on and the issue was most likely new bands with just 10,000 miles wore quickly requiring a remanufactured or rebuilt transmission. Be aware of slipping gears or grinding noises if you have a 9 or 10 year old Ford Explorer. Similarly, the Ford 500 between 2005 and 2007 and the Ford Fusion in the past 8 years had shifting problems that requires a Powertrain control modules or worse, a valve body replacement or a rebuilt transmission. We will check to be sure your PCM and TCM have the latest software updates to keep the former issue from reoccurring. Ford AX4S transmissions in a 10-15 year old Ford Taurus and Ford Windstar minivan were poorly manufactured and failed beyond 55,000 miles because of bad lubrication systems and cheap forward clutch piston. It was made out of cast aluminum and could not stand the stress over time.
Many sensors and actuators are part of the Power Control Module and give the technician a good idea what is failing in the Ford Transmission. Some of these are the Mass Air Flow Sensor, the Throttle Position Sensor which determines shift scheduling, Electronic pressure control and Torque Control pressures. So before you panic, bring you Ford vehicle in for a free transmission diagnosis and you may be pleasantly surprised that it is just a sensor or module problem to a couple parts that need replacing.
